Inside the Lab

My project involves the summer research I did with the SUU Chemistry department.  The professors of the department helped and instructed me in performing research in the laboratory. This helped me gain greater understanding for the procedures used in the laboratories and develop critical skills such as problem solving and innovative thinking. This allowed me great hands on experience to begin to develop these skills necessary to be a chemist.  I have a great opportunity in which I will receive research training that includes hands-on laboratory skills, so that when I graduate in April I will have the necessary preparation to transition into a PhD program in chemistry and eventually a career path in the chemistry field.  I worked on performing various lab procedures which included: liquid extractions, high performance liquid chromatography, thin layer chromatography, reflux, GCMS testing and interpreting, and other procedures for synthesis of compounds used as intermediates. I found and used chemistry article journals as resources to help develop procedures in the synthesis of these intermediates.
